Wholesome Foodsfrom Goose Island Farm
Beef from Goose Island Farm has been raised as close to nature as possible, being fed only grass and hay, never given steroids, growth-hormones, or antibiotics. This results in a product that is in many ways the best food you can put in your body. Studies show that grass-fed beef has less fat than your average supermarket chicken. Grass-fed beef contains 3 times as much cancer-fighting omega-3 fatty acids and has a heart-healthy balance of HDL to LDL cholesterol. Seems like nature may have known what she was doing after all, doesn't it? Here at the farm you can buy beef by the cut or by the side. If you have the freezer space, buying by the side can offer a good savings over buying by the cut. Since prices have come down, it might be worth it to invest in a chest freezer for your family. We don't maintain a large inventory of beef cuts so it is best if you let us know early what your family will need and we can have it cut ahead of time, the way you like it. Goose Island Farm raises Katahdin and Blackbelly "hair" sheep. These breeds have mostly hair instead of wool and their meat contains much less lanolin than wool breeds. This results in a milder, less "muttony" flavor. If you think you don't like the taste of lamb because of what you've tried in the past, it may be time to give it another chance. Our lamb is grass-fed (see the Beef section above on why grass-fed is the ONLY kind of beef or lamb you should be buying) and antibiotic, steroid, and growth-hormone free. Goose Island Farm's lamb is available as a half or a whole. A whole usually dresses out at between 30 and 40 lbs. Like our beef, we try not to keep too much on hand and you should contact us ahead of time so that we may have the butcher cut your meat to your specifications. Download Pricing and Orderform
Our chicken is lean, tender, and full of flavor. Our eggs have a bright, healthy yellow yolk. Like all our foods, neither our meat chickens nor our egg layers are given hormone injections or antibiotics. Nor do we ever give any of our animals feed made from byproducts of other animals. Chickens are not ruminants, like sheep or cattle, and so cannot survive on pasture alone. Our free-range poultry is raised on pasture, corn, and grower mix. Chicken is available as a whole and eggs are by the dozen. Turkey is available in the fall. Email or call 918-275-8113 to pre-order your farm-raised Thanksgiving turkey. |
